The project involved the trainees working with Kipling class on a chocolate mould project. They visited the school and observed in classes before working with our group to design the shape of their mould and to make an individual design.
The teachers then went back to their workshop and cut out the mould shape. They also cut the pupils' individual designs, in card, using a laser cutter. They returned to school the following week and worked with the pupils to finish the inserts, using the disc sander, an electric drill and some glue. Then they used our vacuum former to make the mould out of plastic. This they cut and bent to shape using our strip heater.
The following week they used the Food room to melt down some chocolate and pour it into their moulds. Some of them worked on packaging solutions for their own unique brand of chocolates!
It was a high tech project that involved both design and practical skills. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the project - both working with the Bath Spa teachers, and the outcome of their efforts - chocolate!
We are very grateful to Bath Spa teachers for the time and effort that went into this project.
